I was standing in the foyer of the BBC in Birmingham, where they used to record sessions for Radio 2, and who should walk in but The Bard of Barking.
I’m a huge fan, but didn’t feel like saying ‘hi’. My friend Nick was bolder though, and said “Hello Billy” and shook his hand.
